Character: ERNEST (Ernie) AMBROSE GOOD (Alf’s Grandfather)
Sydney Wine Bar Owner/Operator

Extract From The Book:
A bunch of toughs who specialised in using cut-throat razors to extort money from shop-keepers thought they might try the old protection racket approach on Ernie. The Razor Gang had already been spectacularly successful with many others. A bloke by the name of Lancelot MacGregor Saidler entered Ernie’s wine bar in Newtown one day and suggested to him that the bar should join the gang’s growing circle of “protected” premises. My grandfather politely but very firmly declined the offer.Disgruntled, Saidler tried to leap over the bar, armed with his cut-throat razor. He had a good argument, but my grandfather had a better one. He snatched up his handgun from under the counter and shot the 23 year old Saidler dead.” September, 1930
